The South Dakota Partnership Program is a partnership between state government and private insurance companies to assist individuals in planning for their long-term care needs.  Individuals who purchase long-term care insurance polices that qualify as Partnership Polices may receive special treatment protecting their assets through a feature known as “Asset Disregard,” under South Dakota Medicaid program.

1. •A Partnership policy is ideal for someone who will not be able to afford the high cost of long-term care, but who can afford the reasonable cost of long-term care insurance.  The younger individuals are when purchasing a long-term care insurance policy, the less expensive it is.
   

2. •Individuals who have accumulated resources by saving or investing, may be the best candidate for a Partnership policy.
